What means by Generations of Computer?

    Generation in computer terminology is a change in technology a computer is/was being used. Initially, the generation term was used to distinguish between varying hardware technologies.

        There are five generations of computers known till date. Each generation has been discussed in detail along with their time period and characteristics.
1st  Generation  :  Vacuum tube based (1946-1959)
2nd  Generation :  Transistor based (1959-1965)
3rd  Generation  :  Integrated Circuit based (1965-1971)
4th  Generation  :  VLSI Microprocessor based (1971-1980)
5th  Generation  :  ULSI Microprocessor based (1980-Up till now)

Fifth Generation of Computer : AI & ULSI based Computers
